Food access at GrowNYC markets All GrowNYC market locations accept SNAP EBT and other nutrition benefits to make fresh food accessible for all

GrowNYC was one of the nation’s first farmers market operators to accept electronic government food benefits, such as Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT). This system allows Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) participants to purchase food from farmers.

We convert nutrition benefits like SNAP EBT into wooden tokens and market currencies, which customers can then use to buy fresh and healthy food. Learn more by exploring our benefits guide!

Frequently Asked Questions

  • FMNP checks can be used at all GrowNYC Greenmarket and Farmtand locations. Look for farmers displaying the FMNP authorization sign at their stand. All farmers who sell fresh fruits, vegetables, mushrooms, and herbs at Greenmarket are required to accept FMNP checks.

  • Under Greenmarket Rules, all producers who sell fresh fruits, vegetables, mushrooms, and herbs must be authorized to accept FMNP coupons through the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets (AGM) before June 1st. For Returning Farmers: If you received FMNP approval with a three-year agreement in 2024 or 2025 and remain in good standing with AGM, you do NOT need to submit a new application for 2023. In March, you’ll receive a reauthorization package from AGM with updated rules and signs for 2026. For New Farmers: You must submit a new FMNP application to AGM. Contact fai@grownyc.org for application instructions and deadlines.
