Use the (+) symbol to expand each section to read about how to use your nutrition benefits and coupons at GrowNYC markets

  1. Find your nearest GrowNYC Greenmarket or Farmstand.
  2. When you arrive, visit the market information tent and look for the market staff. They will be wearing a GrowNYC t-shirt or hat.
  3. Once you are there, swipe your SNAP EBT card and enter your pin to buy as many $1 or $5 tokens as you’d like. For every $2 you spend in SNAP, you receive a bonus $2 Health Buck to spend on fruits and vegetables, up to $10 per day. Please read the Health Buck section to learn more about this currency.
  4. The wooden tokens and Health Bucks will act like cash at the market. Use them to shop directly with farmers or at the GrowNYC Farmstand.

What can you do with leftover tokens and Health Bucks?

  • Tokens don’t have an expiration date! Keep unused tokens and use them the next time you shop at Greenmarket. Unused tokens may also be credited back onto your EBT card.
  • Health Bucks expire December 31st of each calendar year, please make sure to use them before then.

Health Bucks are $2 coupons that can be used to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables at all NYC farmers markets and farm stands.

For every $2 spent at farmers markets and farm stands using SNAP on an EBT card, you can get $2 in Health Bucks, up to $10 per day. Health Bucks are available year-round at NYC farmers markets and farm stands that accept EBT.

Health Bucks can be used like cash at GrowNYC Greenmarkets and Farmstands. Health Bucks expire December 31st of each calendar year, please make sure to use them before then.

Health Bucks are created by the NYC Department of Health. For more information visit their website.

The New York State Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) is a federally funded and state-administered program created to support regional farmers while also providing fresh fruits and vegetables to WIC participants and low-income seniors.

From June to November, the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets distributes $5 coupon booklets with a total value of $25 to eligible seniors and WIC participants for the purchase of fresh fruits and vegetables at farmers markets. FMNP checks are accepted at all Greenmarket and Farmstand locations.

1. FMNP checks are each worth $5. Every vegetable and fruit farmer in the Greenmarket program is required to accept FMNP, as do all GrowNYC Farmstands.

2. Pick out the produce that you’d like. Remember, FMNP is only good for fresh fruits and vegetables.

3. Pay the farmer directly for your produce using the FMNP check just like cash. No change is given, so the farmer may suggest that you pick out something else to make up the complete $5 value of the check.

To learn more about how to apply for FMNP, contact your local Older Adult Center or WIC center.

Healthfirst Medicare Advantage plan members with an OTC Plus card can use their over-the-counter (OTC) dollars to purchase items at GrowNYC Greenmarkets and Farmstands. Simply bring your OTC card to the market information tent.

If you are at a Greenmarket, the staff will swipe your card for any amount in $2 increments, and you will be provided with Greenmarket Bucks (worth $2 each) in exchange. The Greenmarket Bucks can be spent on any edible food item (fruits, vegetables, fish, meat, cheese, bread, baked goods etc.) throughout the market. All farmers selling these edible food items accept Greenmarket Bucks.

If you’re visiting a GrowNYC Farmstand, simply use your OTC card to pay directly for the items you’ve selected.

Greenmarket Bucks are $2 coupons that can be purchased by businesses, community-based organizations, and non-profit organizations as incentives or rewards to clients, employees, or community members.

Greenmarket Bucks are intended to introduce new customers to the fresh foods available at farmers markets as well as increase revenue for producers. Greenmarket Bucks come in three varieties: one for any product, another for any edible product except alcohol, and the third for fresh fruits and vegetables only. Partners can choose the type of Greenmarket Buck that is right for their program.

Greenmarket Bucks are accepted at all Greenmarket and Farmstand locations. To purchase Greenmarket Bucks, please apply LINK HERE.

All Greenmarket Bucks expire December 31st of each calendar year, please make sure to use them before then.

The WIC Vegetable and Fruit Program provides nutritional benefits to low-income pregnant/postpartum women and children under 5. While New York transitioned from paper checks to eWIC debit cards in 2019, most farmers market vendors cannot yet process these digital benefits.

A specialized pilot program now allows Morgiewicz Farms (LINK TO FARMER PAGE) and R&G Produce (LINK TO FARMER PAGE) to accept eWIC cards directly at select GrowNYC Greenmarket locations, please refer to the links for each farmer to find your nearest location.
