Fresh Flavors Return: GrowNYC Greenmarket Program Celebrates 50th Anniversary of New York’s Iconic Farmers Market Network
The nonprofit celebrates the 50th season offering opportunities for New Yorkers access to healthy fresh food and vital revenue for regional producers in the Northeast
NEW YORK, NY – May 1, 2026 – GrowNYC, an environmental and food access nonprofit, announces the opening of seasonal Greenmarket farmers markets across the five boroughs. The year-round Greenmarket network is doubling in size as local farmers bring additional delicious seasonal delights to the five boroughs from May through November. During this time, New Yorkers and visitors can find a bounty of fresh, local products at 45+ Greenmarkets throughout the city.
“Visit your nearest Greenmarket for a great selection of fresh fruits, vegetables, bread, baked goods, dairy, fish, flowers, preserves, and more, all produced in the Northeast,” said Angela Davis, Director of GrowNYC Food Access & Agriculture. “By shopping at Greenmarket, you are getting healthy regional food and directly supporting over 190 independent farmers and producers. This season, we are excited to celebrate our 50th anniversary and will offer a series of family-friendly community programming to promote accessibility and enjoyment of local food for everyone.”
Since 1976, Greenmarkets have promoted regional agriculture and ensured a continual supply of fresh, local food into New York City. GrowNYC operates 45+ producer-only markets, meaning farms and food makers may only sell products they’ve grown, raised, caught, or baked themselves. All Greenmarket producers come from 250 miles north, 120 miles south, and 170 miles east and west of New York City, providing New Yorkers with the freshest, healthiest food while helping to preserve farmland in New York’s regional foodshed.
